From For the Grateful

A special day of giving will take place at S.W. Snowden Elementary today. Kennedy Reddick Jr., a native of Aurora, a graduate of Southside High School and a proud graduate of Fayetteville State University, will host a Love Day event which will serve as a back to school kickoff for kids in the Aurora community.

In 2016, Riddick started a mission-driven organization called For the Grateful, with a goal of building purpose driven communities. For the Grateful serves as a model and catalyst for communities and organizations to create a system of caring and support for young adults. We provide access to educational opportunities, personal experiences, and social support services to foster academic excellence & community engagement.

Beginning at 3:30 p.m. today, For the Grateful and team will host its inaugural “Love Day” day event, during which 200 backpacks filled with school supplies will be distributed to the students, teens and young adults of the community. In addition, healthcare professionals such as in the dental, skincare and medical fields will be on site to educate the community regarding the importance of hygiene, health and wellness. Also, the event will include free food and desserts provided by community partners, non-alcoholic beverages, free haircuts and a kickball tournament.

Each student that receives a backpack their contact information will be input into the For the Grateful database so that the organization is able to establish a long-term relationship to support their educational journey. A special thank you to the S.W. Snowden Principal Debra Windley, the Aurora Recreational Department, a host of volunteers and community supporters.
