Low- and moderate-income families in Tyrrell County and other North Carolina areas affected by Hurricane Matthew in October 2016 now have another avenue for housing recovery assistance.

In addition to the hundreds of millions of dollars that have already been spent to help with Hurricane Matthew recovery, North Carolina has been awarded recovery money from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

These Community Development Block Grant for Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds are available to help low-and moderate-income families whose homes were damaged and who may not be eligible for other forms of assistance.

To ensure that funding gets to those who need it, application centers continue to operate in Bertie, Columbus, Cumberland, Edgecombe, Lenoir, Robeson, and Wayne counties for North Carolinians to seek assistance. Hurricane survivors can also call 2-1-1 to apply for assistance.

“To date, the administration has worked hard to put more than $739 million in recovery funds on the ground,” said NC Emergency Management Director Mike Sprayberry. “But we know there remains work to be done. Many families may be eligible for state and federal recovery funds, and I encourage them to contact an application center or call 2-1-1 for assistance.”
