From Pamlico Writers’ Group

In April 2019, the Pamlico Writers’ Group will offer its 7^th-annual writers’ conference at the Turnage Theatre in Washington. The theme will be “Why We Write.” As with other years, the conference will host a well-known literary figure as its keynote speaker on Friday evening, followed by an ambitious Saturday filled with engaging workshops delivered by a wide variety of well-seasoned presenters.

The Pamlico Writers’ Conference is an intentionally small (100 registrant max), low-registration fee conference. Our mission is to provide classroom sessions designed to improve writing quality and to facilitate author/publisher contact. Since its origin in 2013, the conference has grown from small numbers of local participants to attendees from Virginia, Georgia and more than 25 North Carolina communities.

As you can imagine, good talent is costly. This year’s conference diminished our monetary reserves considerably, so our steering committee voted to launch a capital campaign — a humbling, yet necessary task. The purpose of this appeal is to raise funds to allow us to continue to deliver an engaging, informative, literary weekend in 2019 to writers and aspiring writers, and to ensure the continuation and growth of the Pamlico Writers’ Annual Conference.

In 2017, the Pamlico Writers’ Group became an affiliate member of Arts of the Pamlico, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, tax-deductible organization. As an affiliate, the group enjoys nonprofit status.
