EDENTON — Playing Edenton for the second time in eight days, the Washington volleyball team won in even more convincing fashion than in the original straight-sets victory, defeating the Aces, 25-11, 25-9, 25-8, in Edenton on Thursday.

Pam Pack (4-2) head coach Mallory Lee said she was pleased with her team and how they corrected mistakes made in the opening set.

“We had quite a few serving errors in the first game; I think we had four,” Lee said. “And then they cut those out and they were able to keep (Edenton) under ten (points) for the last two sets. I think that was really awesome.”

The second and third sets saw Washington go on several long serving runs, with Emme Davis, Summer Campbell and Hannah Respess doing the damage for the Pam Pack.

“We were calling spots for serving and kind of hitting the holes on the court,” Lee said. “So, Edenton was really struggling getting the ball back, and when they did, we were moving well and we were finishing that play.”

The Pam Pack didn’t just excel in serving on Thursday. Washington’s hitting at the net was also too much for Edenton (1-5) to handle.

“Summer Campbell had a great game at the net. She had quite a few (kills) that they couldn’t even touch. Leah Spencer had a really good hitting game as well,” Lee said. “We had to sit Emme in the third set because she started feeling pretty sick, but Leah and Summer definitely picked up the slack.”

Lee believed there was more than one reason why Washington improved on the 25-18, 25-14, 25-18 victory over the Aces on Aug. 16. The first being the Pam Pack coach said she threatened to punish her team after not being satisfied with how they played in the first go-around with Edenton. But Lee also said she thought her squad had more confidence after the win last week.

After taking a little break, Washington will return to action Thursday by opening conference play with a home game against Greene Central (1-3).
