BELHAVEN — For the shopaholics in Beaufort County, downtown Belhaven will be the place to be on Saturday. A number of downtown Belhaven businesses will participate in the sale, including Attic Life, Coastal Cottage Life, Handpicked Sister, Market 32, Sarah’s of Belhaven and Southern Tuck.

“You can make it an all-day outing,” Southern Tuck owner Angie Bishop said. “We thought it would bring more people to town, and then they could go out and it would just help the town as a whole.“

From furniture, decorations and collectibles to clothing for men, women and children, there will be something for everyone during the sale. With the transition of the seasons, Bishop says this is a great time to find deals on last season’s fashions and stock up for the fall.

“We’re going to be offering a lot of summer sales, but we’ll have fall items from last year that are 50 to 75 percent off,” Bishop said. “A lot of the stores have their new fall lines out, so they can shop the sales and also preview the new fall lines.”

In addition to drawing visitors from Belhaven and beyond, Bishop says that having the businesses all working together creates even more of an incentive for shoppers to come out and enjoy downtown Belhaven. By cooperating to make the sidewalk sale happen, Bishop says that everyone benefits.

“I’ve always said we’re better together,” Bishop said. “People aren’t necessarily going to drive from Washington for one store, but they’re more likely to come if they can spend the whole afternoon shopping.”

As Belhaven works its way onto the radar as a destination for people both locally and throughout the state, Bishop says that her business is seeing the impact.

“We’re getting on the map,” Bishop said. “I have new people coming in every day who are hearing about the shop and about Belhaven.”
