Theater reduces weekday movie ticket pricing

In this day and age, $5 won’t get you much — a fast food meal, a snack from the gas station or maybe enough gas to get to the next town over. Starting this week, movie lovers can make five bucks stretch a little bit further at Golden Ticket Cinemas.

Effective today, the movie theater is now offering movie tickets at $4.70 (plus tax) all day and night, Monday through Thursday. Prices for Friday, Saturday and Sunday shows will remain as they are currently.

“It’s any movie, anytime of day,” Golden Ticket Manager Zach Dereadt said. “After taxes, I want to say it will come up to an even five dollars. It will be an all-the-time thing, aside from holidays or any special event like that.”

Previously, the theater offered a $5 early bird movie special on Monday through Friday, offering discounted entry to shows starting before 2 p.m. With that program’s success, the theater decided to take it one step further.

“Usually our cheaper shows of the day were the busiest because it’s the best deal,” Dereadt said. “So hopefully with it being an all-day thing, people will feel like they have more options instead of just being limited to the one movie time in the morning.”

In addition to the new rates, the theater also offers special events throughout the year, such as its summer vacation movie series, which ended in August. Other special offerings included free popcorn for active duty military and veterans on Memorial Day and for moms on Mother’s Day.

Beaufort County’s only first-run movie theater, Golden Ticket Cinemas is located at 960 Washington St. in the Washington Square Mall plaza. For more information, and showtimes, find the theater on Facebook at @GoldenTicketCinemas, visit www.gtcinemas.com or call 252-940-5656.
