BELHAVEN — According to Belhaven Town Manager Lynn Davis, utility crews in Belhaven were moving quickly on Monday to ensure that they would have all the necessary equipment on hand should Hurricane Florence impact the town. From equipment such as sandbags and poles to having contractors on standby to ensure swift response in the event of outages, Davis says that the town is taking the precautions necessary for a measured response.

“We’re making sure that all of our assets are going to be protected and that we’re going to be ready for whatever comes our way,” Davis said.

Davis says that the town will be working closely with Beaufort County Emergency Management throughout the week and over the weekend, following the county’s lead in terms of response. She also remarked on the citizens of Belhaven, saying that the town’s residents are familiar with storm preparation and well skilled at protecting their homes and businesses.

“We’re encouraging our citizens to be resilient and make all of their necessary arrangements,” Davis said. “Most of the people here have been through it before and they know that this is a very low-lying area. Regardless of plans, we’re going to have some flooding, but the citizens here know what to expect and know how to prepare, so we’ve seen a lot of people making preparations for their homes and their businesses.”
