PLYMOUTH — Joseph Gray “Joey” Thompson, 56, of Plymouth died Friday, August 31, 2018, at his residence in Plymouth.
Born June 18, 1962 in Beaufort County he was the son of the late Joseph G. Thompson and Kathleen Craddock Thompson Spencer who survives and was preceded in death by his daughter, Heather Thompson. Joey was a former fire chief and current member of the Plymouth Volunteer Fire Department and First Christian Church. He had worked as maintenance supervisor for Washington County Hospital, building inspector and fire marshal for Washington County and presently served as code enforcement officer for the Town of Plymouth.
His family includes his mother, Kathleen Craddock Thompson Spencer of Plymouth, N.C.; love of his life, Lisa Asby of Plymouth, N.C.; sister, Jo Thompson Teel and husband John of Bethel, N.C.; nephew, Tre Teel; nieces, Marla Snider and Michele Strickland.
Funeral service will be held Monday, Sept. 3, 2018 at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church with Pastor Jimmy Elks officiating. Burial with full fireman honors will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at First Christian Church and other times at the residence.
