At 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aurora Mayor Clif Williams said he’d yet to see a utility truck in the area.

The town has been without power since about 8 p.m. Thursday night, and residents have had no communication, nor been able to get any news as internet, TV and phones are down.

“I’ve not even seen a power truck,” Williams said, speaking on his cell phone. “I’m kind of concerned about that. The whole town’s out; the whole surrounding area’s out. It’s going to be a while.”

The likely reason is that many trees and power lines were downed by the wind and rain delivered over the past 48 hours by Hurricane Florence. Florence has since been downgraded to a tropical storm.

Williams said besides trees and power lines felled around the town, water from Florence’s storm surge has, for the most part, receded.

“It’s going out pretty quickly,” Williams said.

On Friday, Williams said the flooding on Aurora’s Main Street was significant.

He said residents’ lack of the ability to communicate with others outside of the area is growing frustrating.

“We’re feeling kind of left out down here,” Williams said.
