Beaufort County Public Health Department will be providing free bacteria testing for private drinking water well for residents affected by hurricane Florence. Flooding can introduce impurities into private drinking water sources. Property owners whose homes, rental units and businesses obtain water from a private well should be aware of potential health hazards if their well was submerged. If you feel your well has been contaminated by flood waters and need to chlorinate it, our office has a list of certified well contractors as well as information on how to properly chlorinate a well. If you suspect your well has become contaminated, please contact Beaufort County Health Department at 946-6048 with any questions.
