From The Salvation Army
An army of Salvation Army personnel throughout the Carolinas are responding in communities impacted by Hurricane Florence. Currently, The Salvation Army has mobile feeding units providing food and hydration and emotional and spiritual care to survivors. So far in the response, The Salvation Army has served 5,848 meals, 6,184 drinks, and 7,046 snacks in Hyde and Beaufort Counties.
“We had widespread flooding and power outages in Belhaven, Aurora, Chocowinity, and Scranton. Working with community partners and Salvation Army units coming in from Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia we’ve been able to provide hot meals and cold drinks to our neighbors,” said The Salvation Army Washington officer Lieutenant Karl Bush.
Relief efforts will extend throughout the impacted region. In the short-term aftermath of the storm, Salvation Army officers and staff will continue to focus on immediate needs providing food, hydration, and emotional and spiritual care to impacted individuals and families.
Salvation Army mobile feeding units are currently positioned in the following areas through Saturday dinner:
Aurora, Piggly Wiggly parking lot, with lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and dinner from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Chocowinity Fire Department, with lunch lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and dinner from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Roving canteens are also serving cold beverages and snacks around Washington, Chocowinity, and Whichards Beach.
Beaufort County residents needing assistance or wishing to help should call 252-495-6040, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The best way to help survivors and relief workers is to make a financial contribution. Monetary donations allow disaster responders to immediately meet the specific needs of disaster survivors.
