Dallas Douglas “Doug” Davis, 95, of Elizabeth City died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018 at his residence. A native of Tyrrell County, he was born October 6, 1922 to the late Joseph Columbus Davis and Betty Pearl O’Neal Davis and was the husband of Geraldine Winslow Davis of the residence. A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he served his country honorably in the US Coast Guard and the US Air Force. He retired after many years in food sales.
He was an active member of Berea Baptist Church, a member of the Baptist Men and was the former Secretary and Treasurer of the Dennis Morgan Sunday School Class. Always mindful of his community and civic responsibility, he was a member of the Eureka Masonic Lodge 317 AF & AM, Order of the Eastern Star 44 and a past Patron, the Scottish Rite Bodies of New Bern and the New Bern Shrine Temple. He loved being outdoors, working in his yard and creating beautiful flowerbeds for the enjoyment of his family and neighbors.
In addition to Geraldine, his wife of sixty-seven years, he is survived by a son, Pat L. Davis and wife Anya; two grandchildren, William Patrick Davis and Caitlin Winslow Davis both of Camden, NC; and two brothers, Ray Davis of Elizabeth City and Carl Davis of Roper, NC. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Dell Davenport and Doris Snell; and brothers, Bobby Davis, Harold Davis, Phillip Davis, J. C. Davis, Jr., and Sam Davis.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jason Wise officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the lobby of the funeral home and at all other times at the residence. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
