There are varied and urgent needs in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has a need for a chaplain to staff a Disaster Recovery Center in the eastern part of the state.

FEMA is seeking chaplains available now and in the coming weeks, the request stated.

Requirements are:

1) At least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education

2) Denominational endorsement.

3) At least three years service as a Chaplain or Community Clergy member

4) Available for one to three weeks deployment (negotiable).

“Right now, it’s one but it could be many more,” Bishop Valerie Melvin, regional minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in North Carolina, said Thursday.

Also of Thursday a call went out from Lenoir-Greene County Extension Agent Eve Honeycutt:

“We are in desperate need of 25-ton dump trucks and drivers to haul rock to fix farm paths to reach stranded animals,” Honeycutt stated. “If you know anyone that can send trucks and drivers (especially donate) we would be so grateful. We have the rock.”

“This is a need that some of you might be able to help with,” said Angela Gibbs, Hyde-Tyrrell farm agent in relaying the appeal. “Please let me know ASAP if you are willing to assist in this manner.”
