On Monday, Sept. 24, FEMA Director, Brock Long, amended the Federal Disaster Declaration Order, FEMA-4393-DR, to include Hyde County. Individuals and households that experienced damage and/or need assistance, can now register their information with FEMA.

Registration is available by calling 1-800-621-3362. Those with a speech disability or hearing loss that use TTY, should call 1-800-462-7585. Individuals that use 711 or video relay service (VRS) should call 1-800-621-3362. Online registration is also available at www.disasterassistance.gov or you can download the FEMA Mobile App on your smart phone by sending a text with the word APPLE or ANDRIOD to 43362, depending on the type of cellular phone you use.

When contacting FEMA, please have the following information available. Your address with zip code; directions to your property; condition of your damaged home; insurance information if available; Social Security number; phone number you can be contacted with; address where you can receive mail. Disaster assistance funds can be sent directly to your bank account. Please be ready to provide account type, account number, and routing number if available. When you register, you will be given a FEMA registration number. Write down your number, as you will need to reference it anytime you contact FEMA.

Hyde County has a number of local/state/federal assistance programs and services available to help citizens recover in the wake of Hurricane Florence. In an effort to consolidate recovery information, Hyde County Public Information will be preparing and releasing recovery bulletins to assist our citizens. Hyde County officials met with FEMA representatives on Tuesday to discuss and coordinate FEMA’s efforts to assist with recovery in Hyde County.

The county will send updates about recovery assistance programs as they become available. This information will also be posted to our website in the Hurricane & Flood Info Section and our social media sites.
