This cofferdam was installed to hold back river water from the North Road Street work site in Columbia. A similar blockage will retard surface water runoff from fields and woods east of the site where a large culvert will be placed in North Boundary Canal to reduce flooding. Stoppage of water flow in the canal and vehicle traffic on North Road Street could last up to six weeks, beginning Oct. 3.
