The Down East Seniors Club held its Oct. 3 meeting at the Blind Center of North Carolina in Washington. President Gary Brinn led the meeting. Jim Hackney played for the singing of “God Bless America,” which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Charles Smith gave the invocation, and Ed Hamrick read factoids for the date in history.

Brinn announced that Smith had agreed to be vice president for the remainder of the year.

Mike Gwynn introduced Bo Lewis as the speaker. Lewis is a native of Washington and is well-known around town. Among his many activities, he has worked at WNCT, WITN, the City of Washington, the Washington-Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce, Hackney, Buckman’s and Bowman’s (the last two were clothing retailers). He also served in the local unit of the North Carolina National Guard. He told about many experiences he had with his friends growing up, in school and in the guard.

Gene Schwartz won the 50/50 drawing.

The Down East Seniors Club is a group of older men who meet every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Blind Center of North Carolina in Washington. They enjoy fellowship and an interesting program. Guests are welcome.
