Tyrrell board lengthens school day

The Tyrrell County Board of Education on Oct. 1 directed that each school day be extended by 10 minutes beginning Oct. 15.

This action will make up four of the six days lost last month as a result of Hurricane Florence and roadway flooding that followed.

The board determined that lengthening each school day by 10 minutes will be less disruptive than modifying the existing school calendar.

School districts must provide at least 1,025 hours, or 185 days, of instruction each year.
