The Washington Park precinct voting location has changed.

Because of flood damage caused by Hurricane Florence, the Washington Park municipal building will not be used for the Nov. 6 general election, said Kellie Harris Hopkins, elections director for Beaufort County. The polling place will be housed at Faith Free Will Baptist Church, she noted. The church is located at 641 River Road.

“They (town officials) thought they could repair the damage in time for Election Day. That’s not going to happen,” Hopkins said. “The Board of Elections met in an emergency meeting and chose the church as the temporary polling place for Washington Park.”

Beaufort County has 22 polling places, one at the Board of Elections office and the remaining 21 polling places spread throughout the county— one each at the 21 precincts.

The change in the polling place will not affect early voting in the county, she said.

As of Monday, 3,334 voters had voted early at the early voting sites in Washington, Aurora, Belhaven and Chocowinity. The early voting sites are at the Board of Elections office, 1308 Highland Drive, Suite 104, Washington; Aurora site, Aurora Community Building, 442 Third St.; Belhaven site, John A. Wilkinson Center, 144 W. Main St.; and Chocowinity site, Chocowin­ity Volunteer Fire Depart­ment, 512 N.C. Highway33 East.

The county’s remaining early voting opportunities take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the following days: Oct. 24 through Oct. 26 and Oct. 29 through Nov. 2. On Nov. 3, a Saturday, early voting occurs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
