The Tyrrell County Board of Commissioners has named Dawn Brickhouse White to the Martin-Tyrrell-Washington District Board of Health.
After earning an Associate Degree in Nursing at College of the Albemarle, she worked in the operating room at Vidant Chowan Hospital in Edenton for 23 years. She also has some Home Health nursing and geriatric experience.
In 2016 White graduated from Elizabeth City State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education and currently teaches Health Science at Columbia High School.
The Tyrrell native is married to John White Jr., and the couple has three children.
Commissioner Tommy Everett nominated White for the three-county board position, and his motion passed unanimously.
White succeeds Frances Smyth, a certified nurse practitioner, who said she and her husband, Rev. Bill Smyth, were moving their residence to Asheville “to spend more time with our family.”
The county commissioners also reappointed Roger Hudson and Butch Kirkman to three-year terms on the Tyrrell County Planning Board. Other planners are Gail Lewis, Steve Ralph, and Tony Sawyer (chairman).
And the commissioners appointed Quiana Hodges to the Tyrrell County Senior Adult Activity Center Council to fill the unexpired term of Leah Armstrong, who moved her residence to Maiden.
