The second phase of the Alligator sewer project in northeastern Tyrrell County is awaiting $2 million grant funding.

It is designed to bring wastewater collection service to the reminder of Goat Neck Road, Cove Road, Newfoundland Road, portions of Pledger Landing Road, and Old 64 Road from Alligator Creek almost to Ludford Road.

The initial phase, serving 17 households in Goat Neck community, was completed in September at a cost of $2.46 million.

Phase 1 constructed a main pump station, connected the 17 homes, and installed low-pressure pipe along 12 miles of Fort Landing and Sound Side roads to Columbia’s wastewater treatment plant.

The next step will be to extend service to all of Goat Neck Road and Cove Road, and then start down Newfoundland Road, all contingent on the county being awarded a $2 million grant.

A projected third phase would include Ludford Road, county manager David Clegg said.
