From Grady Mullis

This weekend, Boy Scouts in Beaufort County and surrounding counties will converge on Camp Bonner North on Harvey Road to work on search and rescue, emergency preparedness, first aid and wilderness survival merit badges. Experts from these disciplines will be on hand to teach these valuable skills to attending youth all day Saturday. Saturday evening, a celebratory campfire will take place, and Sunday morning, an ecumenical church service will close out the program.

Boys between the ages of 11 and 17 years are all invited — where you can sign up to be a Boy Scout!

Also, this weekend, Cub Scouts in Beaufort County and surrounding counties will converge on Camp Boddie at 419 Camp Bonner Boy Scout Road, Blounts Creek, to learn first aid, BB gun shooting (safety), archery, nature hiking, knot tying and much more — all during Saturday. A huge campfire will close out the day with songs and skits. On Sunday morning, Cub Scouts will assemble at the Clement Chapel for an ecumenical church service. Boys between first and fourth grades are invited to attend and sign up to be a Cub Scout.

On Nov. 3 at 9 a.m., Cub Scouts will assemble at the track on the grounds of John Cotten Tayloe Elementary School for a Cubmobile (motorless homemade go-cart) race. Boys between first and fourth grades are invited to come out and join Cub Scouts.

Appropriate adult supervision is required for the entirety of all of these events and adult registration is encouraged.  All adults who register to be leaders will be required to take Youth Protection Training and be subject to a thorough background check.

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
