BATH — Favorite books and book characters were in the spotlight at Bath Elementary School on Oct. 31, but it really didn’t have much to do with Halloween.
Instead, the costumes were part of the school’s celebration of reading. Activities also included crafting pumpkins representing beloved book characters, according to BES reading recovery teacher Mindy Davis.
“The third graders created the pumpkins as part of their book reports, and everyone at school could dress up as their favorite book character,” Davis said. “It’s a good way for kids to become familiar with books they didn’t know about, and some of the teachers let students share their favorite books with the class.”
The event has become an annual tradition at Bath Elementary and Davis recruited office staff to dress as crayons representing one of her favorite books, “The Day the Crayons Quit.”
The event was less about the Halloween holiday and more about reading and introducing students to different types of books, Davis added.
