A year and a day since its official ribbon-cutting, those behind the Rose Haven Center for Healing have issued an invitation to drop by and see the place.

Sunday, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., the public is invited to a garden party, complete with live music, refreshments and tours and updates on the progress of the historic home that will become a present-day home for female veterans.

“The purpose of the project is to provide a safe reintegration living and healing experience for female veterans recovering from substance abuse, as well as to promote healing strategies for the local veteran community,” said Alexis Davis, Pamlico Rose Institute for Sustainable Communities board member and secretary.

Rose Haven is the first of several Pamlico Rose projects planned for Washington, and has prompted many to get involved, such as one day earlier this year, when Washington-based construction company WIMCO brought employees out for a work day at the house. Longtime supporters of veterans, the company has volunteered as general contractor for the remaining work to be done on the house, including rehabilitation of the 1892 farmhouse and its adjacent barn. A meditation garden and produce gardens are also planned for the grounds.

WIMCO joins CEO Robert Greene Sands, the PRISC board, Carryout by Chrislyn and Davis in hosting Sunday’s event.

“We have done a lot of work on the grounds and can’t wait for the public to see the progress we’ve made,” Davis said. “We hope that Rose Haven will be an anchor for promoting communities to sustainability, historic preservation and community engagement, as well as its use as a center for healing for the residents.”
