The Washington (evening) Rotary Club met Thursday evening at the Washington Yacht & Country Club. Members gathered in the Upper Deck for a social period before moving to the Pamlico Room for dinner and business.

President Norm Koestline called the meeting to order. Sandy Mitchell led in the Pledge of Allegiance ,and Todd Williamson led in one verse of “America.” Chaplain Russell Smith gave thanks for the meal.

After dinner, Dr. Zeno Edwards conducted the weekly Jack of Diamonds fundraiser. Program chairman for the week was Warren Smith. Warren introduced Washington Mayor Mac Hodges as the guest speaker. Hodges gave an update on the progress the city is making in many areas. He presented members with a handout listing 22 properties that have sold in downtown Washington in the past four years. The downtown area is rapidly improving. Mayor Hodges answered many questions concerning the airport, the Streetscape Program and various projects taking place within the city. President Koestline presented Hodges with the highly coveted Rotary pen for a job well done.

Next week, the club will be celebrating their annual Charter/Member night at the country club. Ed Litch led members in reciting the Four Way Test to bring the meeting to an end.
