The Down East Seniors Club held its Nov. 7 meeting at the Blind Center of North Carolina in Washington. President Gary Brinn led the meeting. Jim Hackney played for the singing of “God Bless America,” which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Charles Smith gave the invocation, and Ed Hamrick read factoids for the date in history.

Smith gave an update on the Christmas party. It will be held at Washington Yacht & Country Club on Dec. 19 at 6 p.m.. Cost is $27.50 per person and menu choices are fillet mignon or salmon. Reservations need to be made by Dec. 12.

Frank Stallings introduced Stan Deatherage and Jim Smith as the speakers. Deatherage is the director of Moore Aquatic and Fitness Center and Smith is a water aerobics instructor there. The center, which has been in operation 18 years, offers shallow and deep water aerobics, as well as a fitness room with weights and exercise equipment. Water aerobics provides excellent low-impact exercise for physical rehabilitation, as well as strength improvement. Classes are offered three times a week and the pool is available for personal use at other times. Patrons of the center can become members and attend at will or pay a daily fee if they are occasional visitors.

Pat Griffin won the 50/50 drawing.

The Down East Seniors Club is a group of older men who meet every Wednesday from

10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Blind Center of North Carolina in Washington. They enjoy fellowship and an interesting program. Guests are welcome.
