Sixteen students and two teachers from Denmark visited Columbia High School in late October.
While in Columbia, the Danes fully immersed themselves into the local school community. They attended classes, took an Art class at Pocosin Arts, went trick or treating on Halloween, and a few joined some CHS students on a hunting trip.
The students completed an abbreviated “Utopia Project” in which CHS and Danish students worked together to create an ideal civilization.
“This unique opportunity to bring together two sets of teenagers separated by an ocean allowed everyone to learn about different cultures and values while working on real-world issues,” explained Oliver Holley, superintendent. He also thanked CHS principal Bill Ziegler, CHS staff and students for hosting the special guests.
The Danish students spent almost two weeks in the United States, first visiting Washington, D.C., then Williamsburg and finally one week in Columbia.
