A suspect in a shooting in the vicinity of River Road was apprehended on Friday through a joint effort between the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, the Greenville Police Department and the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation Criminal Apprehension Team.

According to a press release from the BCSO, on Nov. 10, BCSO deputies responded to reports of a shooting on Jacks Street at approximately 2:15 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered that a Washington man had been shot in the abdomen in the parking lot of the VFW Post on River Road.

According to BCSO 1st Sgt. Brad Shackelford, further details on the circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation. Shackelford said he could not comment on the type of firearm used in the shooting.

“Because so much of this is ongoing, there’s certainly a lot of that we can’t talk about yet,” Shackelford said.

The victim, who has not yet been identified, was transported to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville by emergency services, and BCSO investigators responded to both the scene and the hospital.

According to the release, investigators began working to identify the assailant and on Nov. 15, they applied for and obtained warrants charging Rasaun Tylik Reese, age 18, of Greenville, with first degree attempted murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. With the assistance of the GPD and the SBI Criminal Apprehension Team, Reese was arrested without incident in Greenville on Friday.

Shackelford was unable to comment on the methods used to identify Reese as the suspect. Reese was taken before a Beaufort County magistrate and ordered to be held in the Beaufort County Detention Center without bond.
