The lights are still on at the Washington waterfront, but not for very much longer. For the month of December, vessels docked at the waterfront have been illuminated with bright and colorful Christmas lights, drawing attention to both Stewart Parkway and downtown Washington as a whole, as a part of the city’s annual Harbor Walk of Lights.

On Friday, the event came to a close, as the Washington Harbor District Alliance announced the winners of this year’s competition. Each winner will receive “chamber bucks,” courtesy of the Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce, which can be redeemed at Chamber member businesses.

The top winners of 2018, as decided by more than 1,000 online votes, were:

First Place — Blue Beard

Second Place — Serendipity

Third Place — Swan

Honorable Mention — Three Beautiful Daughters

“Everyone was so excited to do this,” WHDA Director Meg Howdy said. “Our harbor Walk of Lights is just part of the community effort to strengthen our downtown.”

WINNER: The top vote-getter in the competition, the sailboat Blue Beard, earned 181 votes. Lights on the mast and boom, along with an inflatable on the bow and Santa hanging from the forestay, helped the vessel net its win. (WHDA)

RUNNER UP: With inflatables stacked topside and blue lights strewn across the hull, Serendipity took second place. (WHDA)

THIRD IN LINE: A colorful combination of lights, along with a Christmas Tree up top, helped Swan secure third place in the competition. (WHDA)

HONORABLE MENTION: Living up to its name, Three Beautiful Sisters put on a gorgeous light display this year. (WHDA)
