Charles William “Billy” Leary Jr.

PLYMOUTH — Charles William “Billy” Leary Jr., 64, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019, at Palmetto Health Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.
Billy was born Sept. 29, 1954, to the late Charles William “Bill” Leary Sr. and Magdalene “Chubby” Wynn Leary in Martin County. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was a Seabee for four years. Billy was a skilled carpenter, a passion that he acquired from his father. An avid sports fan, he coached his children’s soccer teams for many years.
He is survived by his children, Ashley Leary Sumerel and husband Daniel, of Williamston, and Sean Clayton “Clay” Leary and husband Trey, of Charlotte; sisters, Renette Leary Ruffin, of Plymouth, and Michele Leary Phelps and husband Jeremy, of Merry Hill; and granddaughter, Harper Barrett Sumerel.
In keeping with his wishes, the family will be having a private celebration of his life and afterwards will receive guests at the home of his sister, Renette, at 17 Carl Drive, Plymouth, NC 27962, on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
