CHOCOWINITY — Complaints from concerned citizens of methamphetamine use and sale led to the arrest of five people and the seizure of 18 grams of meth from a Chocowinity residence on Friday in a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office bust.

“Most of the meth was found in a safe in the closet,” BCSO Drug Unit Lt. Russell Davenport said.

According to a release from the BCSO, the agency had established surveillance of the residence at 41 Hudson Farm Road in Chocowinity and performed a stop on a resident that was departing from the home, yielding one bag of meth.

Approaching the subject’s parents to speak about the drugs discovered, they witnessed two other individuals in the front yard, one of whom allegedly threw a bag containing meth on the ground. Investigators applied for and received a warrant to search the residence, finding plastic bags containing Methamphetamine, plastic bags containing marijuana, a jar containing marijuana, digital scales, snorting straws and smoking pipes.

Thomas Kelly, 53, of 41 Hudson Farm Road, was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine, maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of storing and selling a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Aidan Kelley, 18, and Ava Kelley, 42, both of 41 Hudson Farm Road, were both charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Gary Taylor, 32, of 3247 Chandler Road, and Michael Baker, 35, of 53 Edgewood Drive, was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Each of the individuals was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a secured bond. Aidan Kelly at $5,000, Ava Kelley at $7,500, Gary Taylor at $7,500 Michael Baker at $8,500 and Thomas Kelly at $10,000.
