Catering, tourism, notary and ServSafe classes coming up

BCCC has classes coming up to help students find work, move ahead at work or earn additional income. Some classes are free for those who are unemployed or underemployed. Enhanced Catering Essentials

In this requested class, students will learn the essential knowledge and skills needed to operate a successful catering business. Each week will focus on a different style of catered event. Course modules will include client contact, menu development, purchasing, prepping, presentation, and profit and loss. Kitchen skills are a prerequisite. This is not a beginner cooking class. It will run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting Feb. 5. The $226.25 fee can be waived for qualified individuals.

HRD: Pathway to Hospitality & Tourism Careers

The hospitality and tourism industry employs people with a broad range of skills and interest, including guest services, hostess, facility maintenance, house­keeping, food services and security. This 24-hour program will give you an introduction into the growing field. Want to attract customers and give them a great experience? This class costs $70, but is free for qualifying individuals. Classes start on Feb. 5 and take place on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

E-Notary

In this requested class, individuals learn how to become commissioned as an electronic notary. Topics include legal, ethical and procedural requirements of the Notary Act set forth in the General Statute 10B Article 2. Upon completion of this course with a passing exam grade of 80%, a person is eligible to make application with the NC Secretary of State office. Individuals must have current notary commission to participate in E-notary training. The handbook is available in the library. See www.secretary.state.nc.us/notary/ for details. This $70 class is offered at 6 p.m. on Feb. 6, and another session is offered on April 10 at 6 p.m.

HRD: Working Smart

Working Smart is a five-module curriculum taught over 24 hours. The five modules are: Self Awareness, Self-Management, Work Ethics, Com­munication Skills, and Problem-Solving Skills. This class prepares prospective job seekers for employment and equips individuals currently in the workforce seeking new opportunities. Individuals who complete the training with receive a program certification. A session will start on Feb. 18, and a later session will start on April 15. This class costs $70, but is free for qualifying individuals.

ServSafe

The college will offer ServSafe as a complete class this spring. Food safety and consumer health are among the most pressing concerns for the food service industry. The restaurant and food service industry’s preeminent food safety training program, ServSafe, is recognized and accepted by more federal, state, and local jurisdictions than any other. Effective training means your entire operation will be more efficient, more profitable, and have a better understanding of health department regulations. The ServSafe certification will guarantee two points at your sanitation inspections. This class will run from April 15-18. The class costs $70 and requires a $68 textbook.
