A routine traffic stop for speeding in Chocowinity led to a drug bust by the Chocowinity Police Department early Saturday morning. Among the items seized by police were MDMA (ecstasy) tablets, a felony quantity of marijuana, digital scales, multiple firearms and $919.

Jakil Deandre Bond, of Windsor, faces three felony charges and one misdemeanor as a result of the stop. Bond was charged with felony possession with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver marijuana, felony marijuana possession, misdemeanor marijuana paraphernalia possession and possession with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver MDMA. CPD Officer R. Brooks conducted the search and made the arrest.

According to CPD Sgt. T. Taylor, in addition to the bagged marijuana, Bond was also in possession of marijuana edibles and cannabis oil. A total of five firearms were seized from the vehicle, along with extended magazines and three drum magazines able to hold between 40 and 100 rounds of ammunition.

“In Chocowinity, we have two main thoroughfares, with N.C. Highway 33 and U.S. Highway 17, and we get a lot of traffic throughout the different counties that travels through here,” Taylor said. “More than likely, I assume he was passing through the area, possibly from Greenville to Washington.”

Taylor said Bond had no prior criminal history, aside from minor traffic violations. Bond was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $15,000 bond.
