A six-month investigation by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit came to close with the seizure of a variety of narcotics, after the agency executed a search warrant at a Washington residence May 8.

According to a BCSO press release, investigators found crack cocaine, powdered cocaine, prescription pills, marijuana, digital scales, a 32-caliber handgun and more than $2,500 in cash at 152 Vermont Ave. during the search.

Clyde Chester Wiggins Jr., 54, was charged with two counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, trafficking in opiates, maintaining a dwelling place for the purpose of storing and selling a controlled substance and possession of a firearm by a felon.

“He was actually buying the powdered form and cooking it up himself to make crack,” said BCSO Drug Unit Lt. Russell Davenport. “We’re not sure of where his supplier is at this time, but we’re definitely going to look for it and figure it out.”

Investigators executed the search warrant after purchasing prescription pain pills and cocaine from Wiggins, the release said.

“All of the drugs we found were packaged for resale,” Davenport said. “He wasn’t a user, and none of it was for his personal use.”

Wiggins was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $100,000 secured bond.
