Joyce Mooney Ballance

Joyce Mooney Ballance, 85, of Fairfield, died Sunday, May 12, 2019, at Cross Creek Health Care Center, Swan Quarter.

Born in Hyde County, July 7, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Dallas and Myrtle Cox Mooney. She was married to Allan White Ballance who survives.

She was a member of the Fairfield Christian Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was a devoted daughter, a family caregiver who always was willing to serve her community and she enjoyed traveling. Mrs. Joyce was a hardworking farmer’s wife, who provided for her family, managing the day-to-day farming operation.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at 2 p.m. in the family plot in Fairfield Cemetery. Steve Bryan will officiate.

In addition to her husband, surviving are two sons, Mitchell Ballance and wife Gwen, of Fairfield, Royce “Buddy” Ballance and wife Phyllis; a daughter, Darlene B. Carawan and husband Ted, of Belhaven; seven grandchildren, Shelley Hodges and husband Jake, Daniel Carawan, Madison Ballance, Georgia Ballance, Alaina Binkley and husband Daniel, Haley Ballance and Chelsea Ballance; three great-grandchildren, Rex Hodges, Desiree Binkley, Alyssa Binkley.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Laverne Mooney, and a half-brother, Hubert Mooney.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
