Sandra Berrier Gossett, age 73, passed away on July 13, 2019, at her home in Washington, North Carolina. She was the wife of David Lee Gossett. They shared 52 years of marriage and dated for four additional years starting their junior year in high school.

Born in Winston-Salem, she was the daughter of David Roscoe Berrier and Lona Curry Berrier. She graduated from Griffith High School and attended Gardner-Webb College and Louisburg College. Sandra was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a retired Realtor with Blackstone Realty and Century 21 Realty in Washington.

Sandra lived her life smiling and having fun. Throughout her life she really enjoyed drawing and especially had a love of drawing cartoon characters. She was encouraged often to develop a cartoon strip, but that was not Sandra — she wanted to draw what she wanted, when she wanted to do it. Another great talent was her ability to play the piano. Sandra loved to play old gospel hymns, but she was also apt to throw in a couple verses of “Honky Tonk Women” or “Good Golly Miss Molly.”

Sandra was a charter member of the East Carolina Wildlife Guild and for approximately 16 years was the Exhibit Chairman for the East Carolina Wildlife Arts Festival. Through this position, she achieved recognition for her contributions to the City of Washington. She will always be known for the many world-class artists of many media that she brought to Washington, helping make the Festival the success it was.

Sandra is survived by her husband, David, of the home; daughter Angela G. Ivey (Jim) and grandsons Davis Ivey and Franklin Ivey, all of Darlington, South Carolina; sister Jimmie Gorski of Huntingtown, Maryland; and nephew Albert Gorski of Durham, North Carolina. Sandra’s family was her passion, and she beamed with pride anytime she talked of her precious daughter and grandsons.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at First United Methodist Church at 304 W. Second St., Washington. A visitation will be held at 1 p.m. preceding the memorial service in the parlor adjacent to the sanctuary. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Building Fund of First United Methodist Church.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staffs of Amedisys Hospice and Golden Way Home Care for taking loving care of Sandra during her illness, to the congregation of First United Methodist Church for innumerable acts of Christian kindness, and to all the family friends who did so many things to help Sandra and David over the past several months.
