Lorraine R. Smith

Lorraine Rhodes Smith, 71, of 6444 Newlands Road, Columbia, died Saturday evening, July 20, 2019, at Vidant Chowan Hospital in Edenton.

Born in Tyrrell County, October 18, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Carl and Daisy Lorraine Tweedy Rhodes.  She was married to Edgar Isaiah Smith who survives.

Mrs. Smith was an avid gardener and loved her flowers.  She also had a love for pets and birds.  She had two “babies” “Tiny” and “Spot” and also had “Gray” whom she dearly loved and preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2019, in the Columbia Chapel of Bryan Funeral Service.  Pastor Charlie Reber will officiate, and interment will follow in Azalea Memorial Gardens.

The family will gather with friends during the hour prior to the service.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Linda K. Moore of Roper; a step-son, Eddie Smith of Kinston; four sisters, Delores Hansen of Columbia, Mary Cannady of Rocky Mount, Linda Norman and husband Harold of Columbia and Marie Rice of Chocowinity; a grandson, Kevin Moore and his fiancé, Lissia Commander of Roper; a step-grandson, Brandon Smith and a step-granddaughter, Casey Smith; a great-grandchild, Emily Moore and one step-great grandchild Kenzie Smith and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Vera Hicks and an infant sister, Margaret Ann Rhodes; a son in law, Dale Moore and a stepdaughter Gail Edwards
