A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Beaufort County from 1:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. today.

According to the National Weather Service, a strong cold front will slowly move through the area tonight. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to develop in the Coastal Plains late this afternoon, and shift east to the coast through the evening while weakening. A few damaging wind gusts, localized flooding and frequent lightning are possible, especially across the Coastal Plains counties.
