Washington 31, North Pitt 0

The Pam Pack shut out the North Pitt Panthers on Monday night with a great defensive effort. In the first half, the lone touchdown was scored on the Pam Pack’s opening drive. After getting down the field, an Antwone Godley pass to Mykell Warren was fumbled, scooping it up and scoring was Isaac Roberson Cooper for the Pam Pack’s first touchdown of the season. Godley connected with Cooper again in the fourth quarter for a touchdown.

After leading 8-0 at the halftime break, the Pam Pack came out in the second half with a big kick return from Walt Gerard. He took it to Panthers territory, and later scored on a Jaden Hambric run from 8-yards out.

“We started out slow in that first half, I knew we had to come out and get it done,” Gerard said about the kick return setting up the second half. “Defensively, we just have to be more physical, honestly. We can’t come out flat next week (against Tarboro).”

Godley threw two touchdown passes on the evening, His first came from a forward pitch to Mykell Warren near the sideline and Warren darted 45-yards down the sideline for the score.

“Kill a fly with a sledgehammer,” Godley said was his coach’s message at halftime. The Pam Pack went on to put up 23 second half points.

Head coach Jon Blank said that his team came out flat, but he was pleased with the effort in the second half.

“They responded really well in the second half,” Blank said. “We ended up with a goose egg on defense, which is Coach Alex Heck’s first varsity defensive (shutout). I’ve been coaching with coach Heck for a few years and he’s gotten the opportunity to call the defense this year and did a great job.”

Ayden-Grifton 20, Southside 0

The Seahawks defense gave Southside an opportunity to stick around in the football game but offensively the Seahawks just couldn’t get the wheels turning. After some offensive success at the beginning of the game last Friday, it didn’t translate to Monday evening.

Starting field position didn’t exactly help the Seahawks, as the Chargers began multiple possessions in the second half in Seahawk territory. There were some positives to build off of heading into next week, according to head coach Jeff Carrow.

“We obviously need to perform better on offense in all areas,” Carrow said. “The defense played well and we can build off of that for next week.”

Southside will travel to Dixon next week, an opponent they defeated last year, 27-20 in Chocowinity.

Northside 32, Perquimans 6

The Panthers ground game was the story of Monday night’s ball game, as Northside gained 387 yards rushing on the night. Seven different rushers contributed to the yardage, but James Gorham led the charge with 137 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns. Tyler Modlin had 10 carries for 86 yards and a touchdown, while Zakkai Wilson also had 49 yards and two touchdowns on five carries.

The passing game was “efficient,” according to head coach Keith Boyd, but he also mentioned the Panthers committed too many penalties tonight. They had 11 total throughout the game.

Carter Boyd was 6-for-8 passing for 63 yards on the evening. Tyler Modlin and Tyler Turner both had three catches each. Tyler Modlin had 42 yards receiving, and Turner had 21.

The Panthers will travel next week to North Duplin, an opponent they defeated last season 22-0.
