Across North Carolina, there are so many unowned, stray and feral cats that are suffering and dying. The No. 1 remedy for this situation is for every person feeding and caring for these cats to get them spayed or neutered. Paws & Love, Inc. has spay/neuter programs available to help families living in Beaufort County.

Starting in July 2018, Community Partnership for Pets Inc., or CPPI, partnered with Paws & Love, Inc. to provide much-needed funding so more cats can be fixed.

Community Partnership for Pets was started in 2005 in Henderson County, with a passion for doing anything and everything possible to reduce the suffering and euthanasia of unwanted dogs, puppies, cats and kittens. Their research showed to save them, they had to stop the daily birth of unwanted puppies and kittens, and they had to keep dogs, puppies, cats and kittens already living with a family out of the shelter. Spay and neuter programs are at the core of what CPPI does, and they are excited to support the efforts of Paws & Love, Inc.

“Having the additional funding from CPPI to offer Beaufort residents access to more affordable spay/neuter for their cats and kittens is the best thing we can do to reduce the number of unwanted animals filling up our shelter throughout the year,” said Audra Grisham, founder of Paws & Love. “Since Jan. 1 of this year, we’ve been able to spay/neuter over 210 cats thanks to CPPI and the partnerships with Pamlico Animal Hospital and Welcome Waggin’ Mobile Vet, who immediately jumped on board to help with the low-cost spay/neuter program. We owe a debt of gratitude to CPPI for making this happen, because we could not have accomplished this much without them.”

“Not only does spaying or neutering reduce the number of animals coming into the shelter, it also helps your pets live a longer, healthier life,” Grisham said. “Spaying female pets helps prevent uterine infections and breast tumors, which are malignant or cancerous in about 50% of dogs and 90% of cats. Neutering your pet prevents testicular cancer and some prostate problems. It may also help them to be better behaved by helping to stop some aggression problems, roaming problems and territory-marking issues.”
