Friday night wrap-up

Washington – 0 Tarboro – 47
The scoreboard wasn’t exactly what the Pam Pack wanted, but there were some positives to take away from Friday night. The Pam Pack defense forced a couple of turnover on downs against a stout Tarboro offensive line.
Walt Gerard again led the team in tackles, as he was the tackle leader in last week’s victory over North Pitt as well.
Washington drove the ball down the field on their second possession, as Kris Hill powered his way up the middle, converting a third and fourth down on the drive. On fourth and one from the Tarboro 25-yard line, Pam Pack quarterback Antwone Godley was sacked.
Mykell Warren had a run up the middle in the second quarter that gained 25 yards, but was tripped up and prevented a trip to the end zone.
“This is one of those games that we have to put behind us and move forward and look at our goals for the rest of the season,” head coach Jon Blank said. “If we can go 10-1 then we can put this behind us pretty easily. Our goal wasn’t to go undefeated, it was the win the conference and to win a state championship, this doesn’t keep us from doing that.”
The Pam Pack will travel next week to D.H. Conley (0-2) next Friday night.
Pungo Christian Academy – 6 Northeast Academy – 42
The Raiders improved this week according to head coach Stacy Keech, but there is still some work to do. Pungo moved the ball effectively early in the game but hurt themselves with penalties and a fumble.
Northeast was forced into a turnover on downs on their first drive and Pungo’s Eddy Credle intercepted a pass that prevented a scoring drive in the second quarter. Credle battled through some leg issues after he was stepped on during a play, and Raiders’ receiver Ryan Bishop fought through a shoulder injury. Credle threw a touchdown pass to Bishop in the second half for the lone score of the game.
“We had several improvements from last week,” Keech said. “Our guys played a great first half, we just have to keep building this program one step at a time. (We have) a few little things to clean up.”
The Raiders next game will be Sept. 13 at home against Halifax Academy (2-0).
Northside – 21 North Duplin – 7
The Panthers have started 2-0 for the second consecutive season after Friday night’s victory over the Rebels.
“It feels pretty dang good to be 2-0. ,” head coach Keith Boyd said. “Defense was stout tonight. We just have to come to work next week and clean these penalties up, but we played well tonight.”
Panthers’ quarterback Carter Boyd was 8-for-16 passing on the evening with a touchdown. Tyler Turner caught the touchdown pass, and running back Zakkai Wilson had two rushing touchdowns Friday night, giving him four so far this season.
The Panthers will be on the road again next week heading to Camden County (0-2).
Southside – 34 Dixon – 48
Dixon is a team littered with seniors on the offensive side of the ball. Their quarterback, three running backs and a few receivers have played together for quite some time, and the spread offense spelled trouble for Southside. The offense took a step forward after being shut out last week, and kept up with a high-powered Dixon offense. The Bulldogs scored 32 points last week.
Southside head coach Jeff Carrow said that some injuries set back their defense a bit, with Shantez Clark and Keywon Campbell both going down at the linebacker position.
“Injuries hurt us at linebacker, but James Main played hard,” Carrow said. “We passed the ball really well with Daveion McCraw, Jamari Nelson and Ty’Nahj Smith. Outside run and full back trap worked well, it was a very physical game all the way through.”
The Seahawks will get a chance to bounce back next Friday night as they will travel to Perquimans (0-2).
