The City of the Washington posted the following information to its social media pages on Wednesday morning.
City of Washington staff are busy with preparation efforts in anticipation of storm activity. Public Works staff are cleaning storm drains throughout the city with a focus on our historically problematic areas. Jacks Creek has been pumped down and the pumps have been secured. Staff are also checking backup power on all critical facilities.
Fire and Police personnel began gathering supplies in preparation of the event on Aug. 30 and will continue this week. The Electric Department is prepped and ready. We have two additional electric and tree trimming crews on standby at this time and will continue to monitor the storm to see if any additional manpower adjustments are needed. We are hoping for the best, but we are prepared for the bad weather heading our way.
The city is providing sand for citizens to fill up sandbags in preparation of Dorian. The sand piles are located at the ball field lot on the corner of West Third and Plymouth streets. You will need to bring you own sandbags and shovels.
All residential solid waste collections will be collected as normal on Thursday. A decision will be made by mid-afternoon on Thursday about Friday’s residential solid waste collections.
The city also reminds residents to heed road closure signs and to never drive through standing water, and to avoid all downed power lines.
