With cleanup well underway from Hurricane Dorian, local municipalities and Beaufort County are offering the following services for residents in terms of debris removal. Cleanup assistance is also available for those in need via the Governor’s Commission on Volunteerism.

Individuals who need trees or debris removed, tarps and/or mucking and cleaning of homes should first take pictures of what they need and then call 844-965-1386 for free assistance. Volunteer organizations are standing by to provide cleanup assistance.

Beaufort County

While Beaufort County Manager Brian Alligood says there was not enough damage for the county to activate roadside debris pickup, local convenience sites and the Beaufort County landfill are accepting vegetative debris.

Vegetative debris taken to the convenience sites must be:

• No longer than 6 feet.
• Less than 8 inches in diameter.
• No stumps.

Beaufort County residents may dispose of vegetative debris at the landfill at no cost. Contractors will be charged the normal fee. The landfill is located at 1342 Hawkins Beach Road, Washington, and will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sept. 10–13. Residents must unload the debris themselves at the landfill.

Washington

In Washington, the city’s public works department will be picking up yard waste and tree debris for the remainder of the week, through Friday. Yard waste (limbs, leaves and pine straw) will be collected for one week only and should be placed along the curb. Cut limbs and trees into manageable sizes of 3-to-4-foot lengths. Leaves and pine straw do not have to be placed in bags or containers. Keep loose leaves and straw separated from the limbs. Normal yard waste collections will resume on Sept. 17.

Bulky items, such as furniture and other items too large for green roll out carts, will not be collected. The next bulky item pickup will be from Nov. 12-15.

Belhaven

Debris removal began in Belhaven on Monday. The town has hired a contractor to assist with the process. All vegetative debris can be placed on the side of the street.

Bath

Bath residents can place debris on side of the street for removal. According to Town Manager Bubs Carson, debris removal will likely begin Tuesday.

Aurora

The town of Aurora is bringing in additional labor to assist with debris removal. Residents should place storm debris on the side of the street for pickup.

Washington Park

Washington Park residents may place storm debris on the side of the road for pickup.

Chocowinity

No special plans for storm debris removal.
