Evelyn Gurganus Phelps, 89, of Plymouth died Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at her residence in Plymouth.

Born November 3, 1929 in Washington County she was the daughter of the late James Elwood Gurganus and Flossie Phillips Gurganus and was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Stephens Phelps, Jr. and brother, James Gurganus. Evelyn retired from Washington County Hospital as an admitting clerk and was a member of First Christian Church.

Her family includes her daughters, Dianne Phelps Bradshaw and husband Jim of Wilson, N.C. and Nancy Phelps Culbreth and husband Mike of Plymouth, N.C.; brother, Ralph Gurganus of Bartlesville, OK.; grandchildren, Michael Culbreth, Jr., Bryant Culbreth and Ashley

Funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at First Christian Church with Pastor Jimmy Elks officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.

Family will receive friends on Sunday after the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Christian Church.
