Mrs. Helen Geraldine Asby McRoy, age 83, a resident of Washington, died Saturday Oct. 19, 2019 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019 at Asbury United Methodist Church and will be officiated by Rev. Jim Reed. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
Miss Helen was born in Pitt County on April 4, 1936 to the late James Dawson Asby, Sr. and Lossie Belle Harris Asby. On Oct. 1, 1961 she married Jasper Robert McRoy who preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 2007. Miss Helen worked for Dr. Fredrick Howdy for over 51 years and she was a lifetime member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her four brothers, Bucky Asby and wife Mildred, Gene Asby, Reginald Asby, James Dawson Asby, Jr. and wife Debbie, many beloved nieces and nephews who knew her as “Aunt Shot”, and her faithful feline companion, Sunshine.
Miss Helen is preceded in death by her two sisters, Ellen Asby Smith, Margaret Asby Holland, two sisters-in-law Jo Ann L. Asby, Jo Ann J. Asby, two brothers-in-law, Donald Smith, Jack Holland, two nephews, Rod Smith and Chad Asby.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday Oct. 21, 2019 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.
