A Beaufort County man is in the hospital and facing criminal charges after crashing his vehicle into an unoccupied trailer in the Mimosa Mobile Home Park. The N.C. State Highway Patrol responded to the wreck around 5:40 p.m. Monday evening.

“What occurred, based on the investigation, the driver of the vehicle failed to stop there at that T-intersection where Jacks Street and Office Drive intersect,” said NCSHP Trooper J. Locklear. “He went through that intersection and went up under a mobile home that was parked on the other side of Office Drive. It wasn’t occupied, but it was sold to another person who hadn’t picked it up yet.”

Locklear says alcohol and speed were factors in the wreck, which left the vehicle lodged underneath the mobile home. While the driver of the vehicle sustained injuries from the collision, the injuries were not life threatening.

Oscar Jacabo, 33, a resident of Jacks Street, was charged with driving while impaired, careless and reckless driving and driving without an operator’s license. Emergency medical personnel transported Jacabo to Vidant Beaufort Hospital to be treated for his injuries and Locklear says he has been cited for the violations.
