The former director of the Washington Boys & Girls Club is wanted by police after failing to appear in Beaufort County District Court to answer for charges of sexual battery.

An order for arrest is currently outstanding for Darnell Maye, 49, of Old Pactolus Road in Greenville, and Washington Police and Fire Services Director Stacy Drakeford says the Washington Police Department does not know his whereabouts.

Maye was charged with two counts of misdemeanor sexual battery in July: one charge came from the Greenville Police Department and the other from the Washington Police Department.

Both charges involved the same victim, who police say was over the age of 16 at the time. While one incident allegedly took place at the Boys & Girls Club Washington unit, the other took place at the victim’s home in Greenville, according to previous statements from the departments. In the Beaufort County case, warrants state that Maye allegedly grabbed the victim by his genitals sometime in late May.

Maye did show up for his court date in Pitt County in September, where he pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor sexual battery.

Court records show Pitt County District Court Judge William Desoto heard the case, sentencing Maye to 18 months of unsupervised provision and 60 days of community service. Maye served one day in jail.

He was also required to register as a sex offender for a period of at least 10 years and have no further contact with the victim. The N.C. Sex Offender Registry shows his last known address at Sanibelle Lane in Greenville.

In the Beaufort County case, records show that Maye waived his right to a defense attorney in August, although he retained a private attorney to represent him in Pitt County.
