Beloved sister, wife, mother, and grandmother
Forever greatly missed and never forgotten
Rosalind Alexander Popov passed away suddenly on the evening of December 25th, 2019 at the age of 81. She was able to enjoy one last Christmas with most of her family. She was the daughter of the late Robert Bingham and Edith Pickles Alexander of Roper, North Carolina. She is survived by her sister Fran Everton of Columbia NC, brother Robert Alexander of Redondo Beach CA, husband Paul Popov, children Anne Popov Finnan, Paul Alexander Popov and Danny Popov. Grandchildren are Hannah, Alannah, Grace and Zach Finnan, Katie and Alex Popov, Arwen and Gavin Popov, and great granddaughter Ava Anne Elizabeth Shepley.
Prior to retirement, she taught at Whit Davis Elementary School and valued the friendships that she formed there. She also worked at Stein Mart, a local department store.
Rosalind loved things of beauty like her colorful gardens of flowers, vividly illustrated books, seashells, fine dishes and her beloved little teapots. She enjoyed playing the piano, collecting recipes, and her many books. Rosalind took joy in her grandchildren and even got to know her great granddaughter. At times, she sewed little dresses for them, gave piano lessons, encouraged them to sing Christmas carols, took them to swim and sports practices and gifted them many books. She was very proud of them and was affectionately known to them as “Granny.”
Rosalind never stopped missing her parents, her sister and brother or the farm on the Albemarle Sound where she grew up. She loved her family beyond measure.
Services will be held Tuesday, January 7th at 11:00 am at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Roper NC with Rev. Biggs officiating. She will be laid to rest at Pleasant Grove UMC Cemetery next to her mother and father.
When You Speak of Her
Author Unknown
“When you speak of her,
speak not with tears,
for thoughts of her should not be sad.
Let memories of the times you shared
give you comfort,
for her life was rich
because of you.”
