Gary Lin Tyer

Mr. Gary Lin Tyer, age 48, a resident of Washington, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020, at his home.

A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020, at Hunters Bridge Church of Christ and will be officiated by Bud Ball. Burial will follow in the Tyer family cemetery in Bath. Al Davenport, Ronnie Garrett, Ray Gurganus, Walt Wallace, Timmy Gurganus, Roger Braddy, Neal Woolard and Freddie Francis will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Tyer was born Oct. 22, 1971, in Wayne County, to Harold Lindley Tyer and Doreta Marie Hodges. He graduated from Northside High School in 1990 and attended Beaufort County Community College. On Sept. 11, 1993, he married Sharon Denise Cashion. He worked as a Quality Assurance Technician for Hyster-Yale. He attended Hunters Bridge Church of Christ and was a member of the Beaufort County Beekeepers Association. Mr. Tyer enjoyed playing his guitar, fishing for bass, coaching football, baseball and being on his boat. He loved spending time with his wife and children. Mr. Tyer impacted many lives. His friends meant the world to him.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Cashion Tyer, of the home; three children, Justin Lee Tyer, of Washington, Caroline Paige Tyer, Tanner Bryce Tyer, both of the home; his parents, Harold “Lin” Tyer and “Doreta” Marie Tyer, of Graham; and a brother, Steve Tyer and wife Christy, of Alabama.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Dr. Harold Tyer, Francis Tyer, and his maternal grandmother, Mary Kilby Turner.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020, until the funeral hour at Hunters Bridge Church of Christ and other times at the home.
