Old timers in the South say that if you hear thunder in wintertime snowfall will follow within 7-9 days.

Thunder was heard in Columbia on Sun., Jan. 12, and again Monday, so, if the proverb is true, we can expect snow Saturday, Sunday, or Monday, Jan. 18-20.

And on Monday morning The Weather Channel was predicting that a winter storm system will overspread northeastern North Carolina this weekend.

Channel 7 says the low temperature next Monday morning will be 29 degrees in Greenville, low enough to convert rain to snow if the storm moves at the currently-predicted rate.

We’ll plan for the worst and hope for the best, then wait and see.
