FLAMINGO 5K: The Smith family, organizers of the Darleen’s Flamingo 5K, present a check for $20,000 to the Shepard Cancer Foundation. The event, in its 10th year, is held in the Smithton community near Belhaven. Darleen’s Flamingo 5K is organized in memory of Darleen Smith, who fought a hard battle against breast cancer and lived by her favorite slogan, you “Make Your Own Party.” Hundreds of runners and walkers and generous sponsors help make this annual event a huge success.
